Jon Rahm, wife Kelley announce son's birth just days before the Masters

Jon Rahm won’t have to worry about making a quick exit from Augusta National after all.

Rahm and his wife, Kelley, announced the birth of their son on Instagram on Sunday morning, just days before the Masters Tournament kicks off in Georgia.

“Momma Kelley is doing great and recovering. Kepa is also in great health,” Rahm wrote on Instagram while describing him as a “big boy from the Basque Country,” the region in Spain where Rahm is from.

“Without a doubt the greatest day of my life.”

Rahm, 26, has said multiple times in recent months that he would drop anything — even if that means leaving in the middle of perhaps golf’s biggest tournament — in order to be with his wife for the birth of their first child.

“I’ve talked about it before and we’ve talked about it with her,” Rahm said in February before the Waste Management Phoenix Open, via Golfweek. “No matter where I am and what I’m doing, if the phone rings I’m flying back, and I’m going back home to be there for the birth of my son.

“Before anybody asks, yes, if I’m at Augusta and I’m playing well and she starts getting, you know, starts, I’m flying back. I would never miss the birth of my first-born in a million years, or any born for that matter.”

Rahm has won five times on the PGA Tour in his career, including twice last season at the Memorial Tournament and the BMW Championship. He has seven top-10 finishes already this season, including a runner-up finish at the Zozo Championship and fifth-place finish at the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play last week.

He’s finished in the top-10 in his last three Masters appearances, too, and came in a tie for seventh at the rescheduled event in November.

Rahm will be able to head into Augusta with a clear head now that Kepa has been born — something that could be the extra push he needs to finally put on the iconic green jacket and claim his first major championship.
