PGA DFS: Yahoo Cup Picks for the CJ Cup

·3 min read

Looking for a way to learn PGA DFS without jumping in with both feet? We have a perfect solution for you. This year Yahoo and Yahoo Fantasy are offering a $15,000 freeroll called the PGA “Yahoo Cup.” This contest awards a winner for weekly events and one winner at the end of the season who has the most cumulative points. We have reset the calendars and start round 1 this week here at TPC Summerlin. It will go for 39 weeks, with the lowest nine weeks of scoring being dropped from your total score. Each week also features a $150 to first contest, making each week matter just as much as the last. Let’s dig into this week’s top value plays for the CJ Cup.

Transparency Corner

Winning back-to-back weeks is hard on the PGA Tour, and it is for PGA DFS as well, but even with two missed cuts in the lineup, we were still able to get into the cash line for the second straight week. While finishing around 2,000th is not an ideal start to the Yahoo Cup, it is a good base to work off going forward.

Top Three PGA DFS Value Picks for the CJ Cup

Scottie Scheffler ($35)

A couple of things are working in Scheffler’s favor this week. He missed the cut at the Shriners Open, which should bring rostership down, but within that missed cut was a bounce-back, gritty Friday round that featured nine birdies. That type of scoring this week will be welcomed, especially since he is guaranteed four rounds. He presents an excellent mid-salary value before going up the board into the higher-salary studs.

Marc Leishman ($21)

Leishman has quietly had a blazing start to the season, backdooring his way into two top-fives to start the season. Leishman has found a groove here early, with Sunday rounds of 65 at the Fortinet and 63 at the Shriners. He has won big events against some of the best before, and given his salary, he needs to be highly considered for all formats this week.

Aaron Wise ($20)

Wise is another guy that has had a solid start to the season, coming in 26th and 8th in his two starts. Plus, he is getting noticeably more comfortable with his broomstick-style putting. Anything that works for a golfer with his ball-striking talent will likely be met with big finishes. Given his bare-minimum salary this week, there is no need to fade a guy that is clearly in good form and is guaranteed four rounds.

PGA DFS Yahoo Cup Lineup Fill-Ins

  • Dustin Johnson ($46)

  • Rory McIlroy ($38)

  • Cameron Smith ($33)

PGA DFS Yahoo Cup Lineup Builds

Aggressive Lineup Build

Rostering all three of the top values this week gives the lineup plenty of flexibility to add in at least two studs and a second-mid-salary golfer. It also provides flexibility to add in three golfers right at $40 if preferring the Louis Oosthuizen, Viktor Hovland and Tony Finau combo over something like Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas and Cameron Smith.

Conservative Lineup Build

If one thinks the Leishman run is done but wants to stay with Wise, then swapping out McIlroy for Leishman provides a more balanced build. McIlroy will have to be the stud of the lineup, but if he wins, the balanced build will prove to be more fruitful for DFS purposes, and thus this build will set up perfectly for that result.
