Round 2 PGA Championship leaderboard

Haotong Li was the story of the day as he shot a 65 to vault into the outright lead at 8 under for the tournament. But first-round leader Jason Day and two-time defending PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka are both in contention after 36 holes. Get all the day’s updates from TPC Harding Park by clicking on the leaderboard above or reading below.

Round 2 updates

10:30 p.m. ET: Here’s the top of the leaderboard headed into the weekend at TPC Harding Park:

Haotong Li — -8

Tommy Fleetwood— -6

Jason Day — -6

Daniel Berger — -6

Brooks Koepka — -6

Justin Rose — -6

Mike Lorenzo-Vera — -6

10:28 p.m. ET: Frenchman Mike Lorenzo-Vera put together an impressive day and sat in solo second place until the waning hours of daylight on the West Coast. He bogeyed his final hole of the day, the ninth, to fall back to a six-way tie for second place at 6 under.

9:58 p.m. ET: Tiger Woods is done for the day with a 72. He’s at even par and will make the 36-hole cut but he’s well behind the lead after struggling with the putter most of the day. His chances of winning his 16th career major this week look slim.

9:40 p.m. ET: Stop if you’ve heard this before: Brooks Koepka is in contention in a major. He shot a 68 on Friday to get to 6 under. He’s very much in contention to win his third straight PGA Championship. This guy know how to perform on the big stage.

9:22 p.m. ET: Here’s a name you know: Dustin Johnson, who has snuck up the leaderboard with a fantastic back 9. He’s 5 under and putting together one of the best rounds of the afternoon session. Here’s a name you don’t know: Mike Lorenzo-Vera, who is also creeping up toward the lead. He’s 7 under and in solo second place.

9:13 p.m. ET: Tiger’s day has gone from bad to worse. Bogeys on 13 and 15 drops him to 1 over, just above the cutline.

9:00 p.m. ET: Jason Day completes his day with a respectable 69, putting him at 6 under and two shots off the lead. He’ll head into the weekend eyeing his second career PGA Championship crown.

8:26 p.m. ET: The 12th hole claims another victim. McIlroy took a brutal triple bogey after missing two putts from just outside 3 feet. That erases nearly all his great work in making four straight birdies earlier in the round. He’s now even par and flirting with the cutline.

8:14 p.m. ET: Remember when Haotong Li finished his round with the lead hours and hours ago? He’s still getting his reps in at the practice green and driving range. The TV commentators are baffled.

7:53 p.m. ET: Brooks Koepka was getting worked on by a trainer along the 12th hole. He’s dealt with knee issues all year long, so that’s something to keep an eye on. He’s still very much in the mix at 6 under and two shots off the lead. And guess what, Tiger canned his first birdie of the day on the 10th. He’s at 1 under.

7:33 p.m. ET: Don’t look now but Rory McIlroy just rattled off three straight birdies, including on 8 and 9, the two holes playing toughest on the course so far. He’s at 2 under with some serious momentum headed to the back 9.

7:30 p.m. ET: It was a rough front 9 for Tiger. He bogeyed the ninth and fell to even par for the tournament. He’s striking the ball well and giving himself plenty of looks at birdie, but the putts just aren’t falling like they did Thursday. He has yet to card a birdie on the day.

7:15 p.m. ET: No. 12 was a disaster for Day, who hit it in the left rough off the tee, took four shots to reach the green and lipped out a 3-foot putt. He wound up with a double bogey to fall to 6 under. Meanwhile, Daniel Berger has quietly climbed to second place at 7 under.

6:51 p.m. ET: After recording his first bogey of the tournament at the tough ninth hole, Day quickly bounced back with a birdie on 10 to recapture the co-lead at 8 under.

5:46 p.m. ET: Koepka, going for his third straight PGA Championship title, is off to a strong start with two birdies on his first four holes to get to 6 under and two shots off the lead. Tiger (1 under) is moving in the opposite direction with a bogey on No. 3.

5:27 p.m. ET: First-round leader Jason Day is quickly climbing back up and trying to reclaim his perch. Back-to-back birdies on holes 4 and 5 puts him at 7 under and solo second place.

5:15 p.m. ET: Oh no, Rickie Fowler. A huge mental lapse may have cost him the cut as he accidentally made contact with the ball on a lazy, 6-inch tap-in on the sixth hole. That counted as an extra stroke and he finished the day at 2 over, one shot on the wrong side of the cutline.

4:58 p.m. ET: Tiger Woods has teed off as he continues his pursuit of a fifth PGA Championship title. Other notable former champs now on the course: Jason Day, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy.

4:27 p.m. ET: Phil Mickelson hit a 21-foot birdie putt on his final hole of the day to get to 1 over, which is just on the edge of the projected cutline. There’s a chance clutch putt could get him into the weekend.

4:15 p.m. ET: Add Cameron Champ to that list as he matches Fleetwood’s 64 to join the third-place cluster at 5 under.

4:07 p.m. ET: Fleetwood capped the best round of the tournament so far with a 64. He walks off the course in solo second place at 6 under.

3:25 p.m. ET: The afternoon wave is about to begin, and there’s going to be a lot of star power on the course. Some of the key pairings include:

Tony Finau, Danny Willett, Patrick Cantlay (3:52 p.m. ET)

Jason Day, Martin Kaymer, Jason Dufner (4:03 p.m. ET)

Brooks Koepka, Gary Woodland, Shane Lowry (4:36 p.m. ET)

Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose (4:47 p.m. ET)

Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas (4:58 p.m. ET)

3:07 p.m. ET: Haotong Li is in the clubhouse at 8 under with a stellar 65 for his second round, giving him a three-shot lead at the moment. It’ll be a big weekend for the 25-year old Chinese player in search of his first major title.

2:22 p.m. ET: Mark Hubbard locks in the shot of the tournament. He holed out for eagle on the 9th hole from 238 yards away ... in a BUNKER! Doubt we’ll see anything better than that all week.

2:11 p.m. ET: A bogey at the 2nd halts Fleetwood’s momentum and that leaves two players at 5 under and tied for second while Li (8 under) continues to coast.

1:53 p.m. ET: Tommy Fleetwood is matching Li stride for stride today. Both players are 5 under for the round and Fleetwood is now tied for second, three shots behind Li up top.

1:32 p.m. ET: Rickie Fowler (3 under today) and Phil Mickelson (2 under today) are fighting to make the cut after ugly first rounds. Both are even par, which is one shot inside the projected cutline.

12:55 p.m. ET: First-round co-leader Brendan Todd (6 under) rolls in his first birdie the day at 4 but Li (8 under) matched it with a birdie at the 10th. The top two players are separating from the field.

12:33 p.m. ET: Li caps off a scorching front 9 with a 31. He’s at 7 under and two shots clear of the field.

11:53 a.m. ET: First-round co-leader Brendon Todd is on the course.

11:36 a.m. ET: Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm are on the course.

11:28 a.m. ET: Haotong Li birdied the fifth hole to get to 6 under.

11:25 a.m. ET: Rickie Fowler, Bryson DeChambeau and Adam Scott are on the course.

10:43 a.m. ET: Haotong Li birdied the first two holes to get a share of the lead at 5 under.

10:01 a.m. ET: Bob Sowards hits the opening tee shot of the second round.

6:35 a.m. ET: Other Friday pairings to watch:
Rickie Fowler, Bryson DeChambeau and Adam Scott (11:22 a.m. ET)
Brooks Koepka, Gary Woodland and Shane Lowry (4:36 p.m. ET)
Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas (4:58 p.m. ET)

6:10 a.m. ET: The group of Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm struggled on Thursday. They tee off at 11:33 a.m. ET Friday looking to avoid the cut line.

6:05 a.m. ET: Here’s a look at the hole locations for the second round.
