Petersburg girls hold off Moorefield, 47-43

Jan. 4—MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Moorefield trimmed Petersburg's lead to one point with a minute to play, but the Vikings hit enough free throws down the stretch to win 47-43 on Wednesday night.

Petersburg (6-4) led 7-5 after the first quarter, 20-18 at halftime and 34-26 entering the final period. Nellie Whetzel ended with a game-high 13 points for Petersburg, and Addison Kitzmiller scored 10.

Cici Kump and Amber Williams led the way for Moorefield with nine and eight points, respectively.

It was the third meeting of the year between the teams, and the Vikings have won two of them.

Petersburg hosts Frankfort (2-7) on Friday at 7 p.m. Moorefield (5-5) is at Tucker County on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
