Pete Rose goes on an epic pack-opening spree on the 100th episode of 'Old Baseball Cards'

When we started opening old packs of baseball cards with players three years ago, I certainly didn’t think we’d make it to 100 episodes. And I certainly didn’t think we’d be sitting down with Pete Rose one day for an epic pack-opening session unlike anything that’s ever occurred on “Old Baseball Cards.”

But here we are.

Today marks the 100th episode of “Old Baseball Cards,” Yahoo Sports’ baseball-card-driven nostalgia show, and it’s an episode unlike any other. We’ve got the great Pete Rose, baseball’s hit king, sitting down and flipping through cards from the early ’80s for 20 minutes. Whatever you think about Rose, there’s no doubt he’s a trove of baseball knowledge.

On this week’s episode, I gave him five packs to choose from, each from a different year of his career. But that wasn’t enough for Rose, who instead opened *every* single pack we brought to the shoot. That’s a pack of 1983 Topps, 1986 Topps, 1981 Fleer, 1982 Fleer and 1985 Donruss.

The resulting “Old Baseball Cards” episode is full of great stories, fun reactions, goofy moments and, somehow, three Tim Flannery cards. We talk about Dave Concepcion putting himself in a dryer to break a slump, the fearsome Andre Dawson, Frank Robinson, Tommy John and lots more. Stay until the end for a special treat — me and Pete eating gum that’s more than 30 years old.

If you’re new to our show ... well, you’ve got a lot of catching up to do. “Old Baseball Cards” started with boxes of unopened baseball cards that my grandma stashed away when I was a kid. Since they weren’t worth anything in modern times, we started opening them with players, coaches and famous fans. We have many, many great episodes below for you to check out now that you see what the show is all about.
