Pete Carroll and Ugo Amadi make friendly wager on Pac-12 Championship game originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest

When the Oregon Ducks and USC Trojans take the field on Friday for the Pac-12 Championship game, there’s a lot on the line in the Seattle Seahawks locker room.

We’re talking strawberry cheesecake is at stake,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Friday. “There’s some big stuff on the line here. Ugo better pay up. I just want you to know that there’s something going on.”

Carroll’s talking about defensive back Ugo Amadi, who starred at Oregon before being selected in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The former Duck, who was honored with the Lombardi Trophy after his four seasons in Eugene, Oregon, is confident that his Oregon team will reign supreme and repeat as champs.

As for Carroll, he’s pulling for the Trojans. Before joining the Seahawks organization in 2010, Carroll served as head coach at USC from 2001-09 leading the Trojans to six bowl games, including a BCS National Championship.

“I think it’s going to be a great matchup,” Carroll said. “I’m really fired up for SC. They’ve really battled through this season. They’ve won some great games at the end and finished well. It’s been a really tight season for them, but it’s great to be unbeaten.”

USC went 5-0 in the shortened Pac-12 season and can win its second conference title in the last four years with a victory over Oregon on Friday. The Ducks were named the Pac-12 North’s replacement after Washington pulled out of the title game due to the Huskies' lingering COVID-19 issues.

Oregon is the defending conference champion and preseason favorite to win this season but posted a 3-2 record with narrow losses to Oregon State and Cal during conference-only play. The winner of Friday’s game at 5:00 p.m. (PT) will get an automatic bid to the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl.

Carroll and Amadi’s friendly wager appears to be set. Now, here’s to hoping both Seahawks honor their end of the deal.

“A slice? I’m counting on a whole thing,” Carroll said. “That’s what I’m giving him too. He hasn’t asked for much, so it’s just cheesecake.”
