Penn State has had some good success at home this season, with just one loss coming on the court of the Bryce Jordan Center. That loss just so happens to be the only other Big Ten game played in Happy Valley so far, against Michigan State. But the ESPN Basketball Power Index is favoring Penn State in what should be a competitive one.

According to the ESPN BPI, Penn State has a 59.7% chance of celebrating a win to start 2023. Penn State has won three straight at home and Iowa is already 0-2 in Big Ten play.

After missing one game due to an injury, [autotag]Seth Lundy[/autotag] returned to action in Penn State’s last game against Delaware State. The offense wasn’t on fire against the struggling Hornets but the defense more than took care of business in holding Delaware State to just 46 points in a 60-46 victory.

The win was Penn State’s fourth straight victory since losing at home to Michigan State earlier in December. Iowa will come into the game looking to reverse its recent woes. Iowa lost at Nebraska in its last game, 66-50, and the Hawkeyes have lost three of the last four played, including an overtime loss at home against Wisconsin.

Other Big Ten teams in action on Sunday

Penn State and Iowa aren’t the only Big Ten teams breaking in 2023 with some conference action. Two other games are on the New Year’s Day schedule with Michigan and Ohio State fans looking to keep the energy up after watching their football teams in the College Football Playoff on Saturday.
