Penn State men’s basketball freshman Evan Mahaffey enters transfer portal

Penn State men’s basketball had its first player enter the transfer portal since head coach Micah Shrewsberry departed for Notre Dame.

Freshman Evan Mahaffey entered the portal Monday, he told the Centre Daily Times. Mahaffey was a 2022 recruit and part of Shrewsberry’s first recruiting class at Penn State.

He was a key contributor to the team’s NCAA Tournament run this year and had a large role at times.

Mahaffey is a long, athletic wing who is skilled offensively as a ball handler and passer while being a high-level defender.

Caleb Dorsey and Dallion Johnson are the other two Nittany Lions currently in the portal, but both entered before Shrewsberry’s decision was known.
