Penn State makes top 5 for four-star west coast receiver

·2 min read

Penn State continues to be receiving some encouraging recruiting news as the Nittnay Lions have made the latest cut for a four-star wide receiver out of California. But Penn State could have a mighty tall uphill battle to land the commitment.

Jurrion Dickey, of East Palo Alto, California, updated his recruiting status by sharing his top five schools on Tuesday afternoon. Penn State was among the top five, but is the only school not from the PAC-12 included in the latest cut. Dickey also listed USC, Oregon, UCLA, and Washington in his top five. Penn State being the only non-west coast school listed is somewhat intriguing, but recruiting analysts and prediction metrics do seem to suggest Penn State is a long shot in this recruiting battle.

Oregon is widely considered the favorite in this recruiting process, but Penn State will hope the relationship with the coaching staff can carry some weight as Dickey continues his recruiting process.

With Penn State, it is the relationships with the coaches,” Dickey said of Penn State when sharing some quick thoughts about each school in his top five to 247Sports.

Dickey is a four-star recruit according to every major recruiting outlet (247Sports, On3, Rivals, ESPN), and On3 and 247Sports each rank him as a top 10 player in the state of California. There is no question this would be a monumental recruiting victory for James Franklin if Penn State can find a way to secure Dickey’s commitment.

Penn State extended an offer to Dickey in February. Dickey did attend Orgeon’s spring game recently, serving as a reminder the Ducks could still be the team to beat when all is said and done.
