Penn State lands four-star in-state RB London Montgomery

What a way to kick off what could be a major week on the recruiting trail for Penn State. London Montgomery, the top running back in Pennsylvania, started the week on the right foot for Penn State by announcing his commitment to the Nittany Lions on Monday afternoon.

Montgomery, from Scranton, is rated as a four-star recruit by On3 and ESPN, but a three-star player by 247Sports and Rivals. Regardless, he is still the top-rated running back form within the state, giving Penn State the top running back in the state for a second straight season after landing Nick Singleton in the Class of 2022.

The 5′-10″ 180-pound running back was not offered by Penn State until early March of this year, although he had taken a handful of visits to Penn State’s campus over the past year with two unofficial visits since November 2021, attending the junior day event, and an official visit in June of this year.

Penn State had been considered a trendy favorite for the in-state target. Montgomery ultimately chose Penn State over offers from Boston College and Virginia Tech, with both joining Penn State in Montgomery’s top three at the time of his announcement.

The addition of Montgomery is a nice rebound after a tough day on the recruiting trail last week that saw Treyaun Webb commit to Florida despite Penn State apparently trending in the right direction according to recruiting analysts leading up to Webb’s announcement. Penn State is now well-situated with the running back position in the coming years.
