Penei Sewell finalized his rookie contract Wednesday with the Detroit Lions, according to multiple reports, and the No. 7 pick of this year's draft is expected in town to join his teammates for voluntary workouts this week.
"That’s not going to (be) hurt whatsoever," Campbell said. "He’ll be here. We’ll get him in probably early this week. He’s been in the Zoom meetings, so schematically, he’s on it. He’ll be fine. He’ll adjust quickly. It’s not going to be any setback whatsoever.”
A two-year starter at left tackle at Oregon, Sewell is expected to start at right tackle for the Lions this fall on a line that includes Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow and veteran left tackle Taylor Decker.
Sewell opted out of the 2020 season, so he likely will have some rust to knock off this spring. But he was widely considered the best offensive lineman in this year's draft and has star potential.

"This is a tough dude that knows how to play nasty and he can protect the quarterback," Campbell said. "And that’s what you’re looking for when you’re trying to build a foundation on the O-line. He’s going to fit like a glove, I said it before, with those guys that are up there right now that we already have in the building. He’ll go hand-in-hand with them and he’ll adapt quickly."
The Lions remain mostly virtual for meetings in phase two of the offseason program this week, but are due to begin Organized Team Activities on Monday.
The Lions return five starters on their offensive line in Decker, Ragnow, Jonah Jackson, Halapoulivaati Vaitai and Tyrell Crosby, but could be willing to trade Crosby, who started most of last season at right tackle and is in the final season of his contract.
Under the collective bargaining agreement, Sewell's four-year contract will be worth just over $24 million with a signing bonus of $14.9 million.
According to NFL Network, the deal is fully guaranteed.
