NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reveals potential timeline for Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook's return. This game is streaming live on the Yahoo Sports mobile app, or on NFL Network
With two minutes remaining on Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings gambled with a chance to put away the Seattle Seahawks. Facing fourth-and-1 at the Seahawks 6-yard line while holding a five-point lead, the Vikings decided to go for it. Kirk Cousins handed the ball to Alexander Mattison, who was stuffed on the right side of the line for no gain.
In the 17 seasons that Ben Roethlisberger has been the quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers, former Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw had not spoken directly with him. As a longtime football analyst, Bradshaw has said all he needed to about Ben from behind the desk at FOX NFL or through the media. At times, the 4-time Super Bowl champ has been very critical of Roethlisberger.
The Cowboys season was already not going very well and it likely just ended after quarterback Dak Prescott seemingly broke something in his leg after a quarterback draw in the third quarter. Prescott immediately called out for help a wide receiver Michael Gallup threw his hands on his head, obviously horrified by the injury which had the Cowboys leader's foot pointing in the wrong direction. Andy Dalton will takeover quarterback duties for what will likely be the rest of the season
In this week's edition of the NHL Power Rankings we check in with the best free agent signings that we have seen so far this offseason around the league. We tried to take into account the contract, the salary cap hit, the expected level of production, as well as the long-term risk with each deal. The latter point might drop a good player right now a little further down the rankings, because that risk definitely matters in the future.
The Detroit Lions may be on bye this week, but that did not stop Fox analyst Terry Bradshaw from calling for Matt Patricia's job as Lions head coach for the second time in three weeks. "Patricia, in Detroit, can't coach," Bradshaw said during Fox's Sunday pregame show. Bradshaw said in September, before the Lions' only win of the season against the Arizona Cardinals, that both Patricia and Lions general manager Bob Quinn "should be fired" because of the team's persistent struggles during their tenure.
For one play on Sunday, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green looked like he was a lost sightseer instead of a football player. As the first quarter was winding down against the Baltimore Ravens, quarterback Joe Burrow threw a pass that was meant for Green. Granted, the ball Burrow threw was way over his head, but he didn't even have his hands up — he literally just watched the ball sail over his head and into Peters' hands.
LSU is out of The Associated Press college football poll for the first time since 2017 and is the first defending national champion to drop from the rankings in nine years. No. 1 Clemson, No. 2 Alabama and No. 3 Georgia held steady at the top of the rankings Sunday, setting up a top-three matchup Saturday when the Crimson Tide hosts the Bulldogs. Clemson received 59 first-place votes.
The writing is on the wall for Dwayne Haskins in Washington. Head coach Ron Rivera benched Haskins in favor of Kyle Allen earlier this week, sending the 2019 15th overall pick to the bench just four weeks into the season. Haskins wasn't only demoted to the backup role; he's now third on Washington's depth chart behind Alex Smith.
Lewis Hamilton has aimed a thinly-veiled slight at Sir Jackie Stewart after accusing Formula One's past legends of always speaking negatively about him. Hamilton will become the sport's most decorated driver after drawing level with Michael Schumacher's win record following his 91st career triumph at Sunday's Eifel Grand Prix. Ahead of the Nurburgring race, Stewart, 81, said he could never regard Hamilton among F1's greatest drivers.
Now that the 2020 Grand Slam season is done and Rafael Nadal is tied with Roger Federer at 20 major championships, the most for a man in tennis history, followed by Novak Djokovic at 17, some might be tempted to rekindle the conversation about which is the “Greatest of All-Time.” Two weeks before Nadal trounced Djokovic 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 Sunday to earn a 13th trophy at the French Open and catch Federer in the Slam standings, Serena Williams was asked to assess the significance of such an achievement. Williams owns 23 major singles trophies, the most by anyone in the professional era and second to Margaret Court's all-era standard of 24.
Howard and Morris continue streak of ex-Wizards getting rings originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington It's a classic pipeline, like Georgetown once was with star NBA centers or Second City to SNL. The Wizards have become a factory that consistently produces championship bench players. On Sunday night, as the Lakers won the 2019-20 title, four former Wizards players were there celebrating on the court at Disney World in Orlando.
Eight playoff drivers remain after Sunday's Cup race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval. For the first time since this playoff format debuted in 2014, the reigning series champion did not advance to the Round of 8. Kyle Busch was eliminated after finishing 30th at the Roval.
With the Lakers in hot pursuit, the Clippers signed Kawhi Leonard. The Clippers held quite the celebratory press conference to introduce Leonard and Paul George. Clippers guard Patrick Beverley reportedly gloated directly to LeBron James about the Clippers' new stars, and Beverley publicly declared the Clippers the “best team in L.A. for sure.
The Lakers traded a lot — some would say their future — for Anthony Davis. But the deal that netted them a championship, the franchise's 17th, wasn't just a trade for the present. It was a deal for the future — the next great Laker celebrating a championship.
There have been a lot of dramatic and devastating knockouts in MMA history, but few were as remarkable and as emphatic as Joaquin Buckley's spinning back kick to the head of Impa Kasanganay on Saturday at UFC Fight Island 5 in Abu Dhabi. A little past the midway part of Round 2 of what had been an excellent middleweight fight, Buckley threw a left kick to the body that Kasanganay caught. As Kasanganay held Buckley's foot, Buckley pivoted and circled 360 degrees and when he came back to where he started, he kicked Kasanganay with his other foot squarely in Kasanganay's face.
The monthlong postponement, or was it a pause, of Big Ten football is over. Conference games are scheduled to begin the weekend of Oct. 24. A byeless, eight-game regular season will be followed by "Champions Week" — or the league championship game and a slew of interdivisional Big Ten matchups.
It may be the most impressive example yet of Bryson DeChambeau's command of distance that he can dominate a golf tournament being contested more than 5,000 miles away from the event he's actually competing in. On Thursday, DeChambeau made his first start since winning the U.S. Open by six strokes, and promptly shot 62 to grab the first-round lead at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas. By Friday, he was scarcely less a factor at the BMW PGA Championship, the flagship event on the flagging European Tour.
Joaquin Buckley has Knockout of the Year in the bag after stopping Impa Kasanganay during UFC Fight Island 5. Buckley controlled the pace from the opening bell during Saturday's fight, landing damaging body kicks on Kasanganay in the second round. This prompted Kasanganay to counter a head kick by catching a hold on Buckley's heel.
Thanks to his strong defense (did you see that blocking in the ALDS against the Rays?) and emerging offense (.771 OPS, a three-homer game), he started five of the Yankees' seven playoff games. Voit smashed 22 homers, becoming the eighth Yankee to lead MLB in longballs. LeMahieu was a beast again, so good and gritty that he makes the Bronx Bombers less of an all-or-whiff team.
