PCM football wins second straight, downs Albia

Sep. 26—ALBIA — A stout defense and a second-half touchdown was all PCM's football team needed against Albia on Friday night.

The Mustangs went on the road for a Class 2A District 7 matchup with the Blue Demons and held their hosts to 169 total yards in a 16-7 victory.

PCM won its second straight game after totaling 270 yards and holding Albia to 3.4 yards per carry.

The Mustangs (3-2 overall, 2-0 in the district) led 9-7 after one quarter and scored seven points in the third to stay in front. Albia was held off the scoreboard in the final three quarters.

Gavin Van Gorp was 10-of-13 through the air for 119 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 16 yards.

Adrien Robbins rushed for 120 yards on 20 carries and had a pair of catches for 15 yards. William Vanderpool rushed for 22 yards on nine carries and scored on a 1-yard TD plunge in the first half.

Van Gorp's favorite target was August Stock, who had five catches for 89 yards and a touchdown. Gavin Fenton chipped in two catches for 13 yards.

Stock's touchdown was a 27-yarder in the third. The other points came on a safety after Albia had a bad snap on an attempted punt.

Fenton led the defense with six tackles and an interception. Brevin DeRaad tallied 7.5 tackles, Finn Wilson had 6.5 tackles and Vanderpool registered 5.5 tackles and two tackles for loss.

Donovan Nickelson collected four tackles and Robbins and Joel Greiner each had three tackles. Robbins also recovered a fumble.

Albia (2-3, 0-2) dropped its second straight game. Gage Oddo led the offense with 90 rushing yards. Justin Keller had 35 passing yards, 34 rushing yards and a TD and registered 11 tackles on defense.

It was PCM's fifth straight win over Albia.
