Patty Jenkins Could Become Highest-Paid Director With ‘Wonder Woman 2’
“Wonder Woman 2” could be directed by Patty Jenkins, who helmed the first Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) standalone movie, and if this will be the case, she could become Hollywood’s highest-paid director.
According to Entertainment Tonight, the sequel was announced at last month’s San Diego Comic-Con, but it wasn’t revealed whether or not Jenkins will be involved in the film. But according to Deadline, the director is currently in final negotiations to direct the sequel with the studio executives. If the deal is finalized, Jenkins could become the highest-paid director in Hollywood today.
In June, a source told Entertainment Tonight that Jenkins will be working on the script for the second installment regardless of whether or not she will return to direct it. Around the same time, Jenkins shared her ideas for the upcoming movie during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
“The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right. She’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time… It’s a beautiful story to tell, an important time to tell it and with people that I love,” she said.
Meanwhile, “The Exorcist” star Geena Davis also expressed her desire to be part of the “Wonder Woman” sequel. The actress spoke with Variety and revealed that she personally approached Jenkins about potentially being cast in the film.
“Certainly ‘Wonder Woman’ needed to be made, and I’m so beyond thrilled with how it came out. I met Patty Jenkins and I told her, ‘I’m sure you’re going to make a sequel and if you need anybody Amazonian, there’s always me. I’m available.’ I loved it, and I want to do more of those films. My dream goal would be to have a streaming show where I could be a badass,” she said.
“Wonder Woman” was dubbed as “the biggest movie of the summer” by Forbes. The Gal Gadot-starrer earned a total of $389 million domestically. This figure is two million more than the domestic gross of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” The film’s eighth week earning tied with the revenue of “Spider-Man” back in 2002. The publication added that “Wonder Woman” is the domestic champion, but the international winner in terms of revenue is still “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.”
Patty Jenkins is already working on a script for “Wonder Woman 2,” but it is still unclear whether or not she will direct the film.
