Pats sign ex-Lions, Rams DB Dee Virgin ahead of Jets game originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

The New England Patriots are fine-tuning their roster until the very end of the 2020 season.

The Patriots have signed defensive back Dee Virgin, the team announced Friday.

The 27-year-old signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent out of West Alabama (Malcolm Butler's alma mater) in 2017. He joined the Lions in 2018 and appeared in 21 games for Detroit over the course of three seasons, mostly seeing time on special teams.

Curran: These 10 Patriots may not be around next season

Virgin signed with the Los Angeles Rams' practice squad on Dec. 22 after the Lions released him on Dec. 17. The Patriots brought him in for a free-agent visit after his release from the Rams, per ESPN's Mike Reiss, and apparently liked what they saw.

Virgin likely won't make much of an impact in New England's season finale against the New York Jets on Sunday. He has experience with two Patriots alums in Bill O'Brien (Houston) and Matt Patricia (Detroit), however, so this game could serve as a tryout for Virgin entering 2021.
