Patriots place Ronnie Perkins on injured reserve originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

Rookie Ronnie Perkins' debut for the New England Patriots has been placed on hold once again.

The team announced Friday that Perkins, a linebacker drafted in the third round, 96th overall out of Oklahoma last April, has been placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury that will keep him out for at least three more games.

Perkins was ruled out of Saturday night's game against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday, when the team released its final practice report for the week.

The earliest Perkins could get on the field for New England is in time for its final game of the regular season in Week 18 against the Miami Dolphins on Jan. 9 on the road. It's looking more likely that it will be a redshirt year of sorts for Perkins, who has seen fellow rookies Mac Jones, Christian Barmore and Rhamondre Stevenson make immediate impacts for the Patriots.
