New England Patriots safety/special teamer Cody Davis was recognized by the NFL Players Association for his admirable off-the-field contributions.

Davis was named the NFLPA's Week 3 Community MVP for his "Cody's Gamers" program, which aims to cheer up kids at Boston Children's Hospital through video games. The 33-year-old often joins the children via Zoom to play games on Nintendo Switch, which he donated to the hospital for patients to use.

During a press conference on Friday, Davis opened up about what the honor means to him.

"Just shocked. Shocked and truly honored, blessed, thankful that God has put me in this position to have the resources, the platform to give back and love and serve others," Davis said. "I just hope this encourages everybody, no matter what position they're in, whatever role they're in, you can truly make an impact with the gifts that God has given you."

Davis chats with the children on Zoom and after playing games, he sends them gift baskets filled with what they say they like. For him, it was a great way to safely put a smile on kids' faces during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Video games have been a big part of growing up, me and my brother," he said. "So it's been a joy to always play video games. But to use that tool to serve, especially whenever the pandemic was going on, the lockdowns within the hospital, so being able to use that technology to still visit the kids has just been amazing."

In addition to "Cody's Gamers," Davis hosts a free, annual football camp in his hometown of Stephenville, Texas with proceeds going to a local charity. He also hosted 50 foster children and their families for an in-person video game tournament in May.

To reward Davis for the Community MVP honor, the NFLPA will donate $10,000 to Davis’ foundation or a charity of his choice.
