Earlier this week, Steve Stricker made his six captain’s picks for the U.S. Ryder Cup team. To the surprise of some, Stricker left off multiple Ryder Cup veterans in favor of more youth. One of the omissions was “Captain America”, Patrick Reed.

Reed has had an interesting month. He missed the first two legs of the FedEx Cup Playoffs due to bilateral pneumonia which caused him to be hospitalized. He opened up about his battle while in Atlanta during Tour Championship week stating “I was battling for my life.”

In response to Stricker’s decision, Reed stayed quiet on social media, not tweeting or posting anything explaining his displeasure. However, he or someone running his Twitter account, did ‘like’ dozens of tweets that did that for him.

Although Reed has been dubbed “Captain America”, he has struggled in his last few appearances while representing the United States. At the Presidents Cup in Australia in 2019, Reed finished the week 1-3. At the 2018 Ryder Cup, Patrick was 1-2.

His last great moment in these team events came at the epic 2016 Ryder Cup Sunday singles match against Rory McIlroy. Not only did he beat Rory head-to-head, Reed was 2-1-1 on the week.

On the PGA Tour, Reed’s last top-10 finish came back in the first week of June at the Memorial.
