Patrick Peterson says he's frustrated with Cardinals season but intends to be with team

Patrick Peterson isn’t happy with how the Arizona Cardinals season is going.

But no, it doesn’t seem he wants to be traded.

A report this week said Peterson requested to be traded before the Oct. 30 trade deadline. The Cardinals are coming off a terrible loss to the Denver Broncos, which dropped Arizona to 1-6.

It’s not an ideal situation for anyone, much less a world-class cornerback like Peterson. But with speculation that Peterson wanted to be traded, he seemingly put the matter to rest.

Patrick Peterson said he wants to be a Cardinal

Peterson put out a statement on Wednesday. He admitted to being “incredibly frustrated,” but most importantly he said he wants to be a part of turning things around.

The key part is that he said he has always given his all to the Cardinals and “I intend to do for the years to come.”

A statement on Twitter isn’t a contract, so it’s not like that has to be the final word on anything. But let’s take everyone for their word and assume Peterson will be in Arizona for a while.

Peterson would draw a lot in a trade

Peterson is one of the best cornerbacks in football, and just 28 years old. He’s a seven-time Pro Bowler, a three-time All-Pro and his cap hits the next two years are $11.9 million and $13.2 million, which is relatively cheap for a player of his ability. That’s why the Cardinals have said they’re not trading Peterson.

For one of the worst teams in the NFL, it has to be a bit of a tough call. Peterson would presumably get a lot back in a trade. He’s not quite Khalil Mack, but he’s a Hall of Fame-caliber player still in his prime at a valuable position. Arizona wouldn’t have a tough time finding someone who wants to deal.

But the Cardinals won’t get any better trading their most talented player. And for now, Peterson sounds like he wants to be a part of a rebound.
