The New York Giants and Kansas City Chiefs are not slated to play during the 2022 regular season, and that’s proven beneficial for quarterback Daniel Jones in an unexpected way.

Shortly after hiring Brian Daboll as their next head coach, the Giants went out and added Mike Kafka as their offensive coordinator. It was an opportunity the long-time Chiefs assistant couldn’t pass up.

It was a loss for Patrick Mahomes, however. But rather than sulking, he’s taken to helping Kafka adjust to his new role while also helping the Giants quarterbacks adjust to Kafka’s offensive system.

“I’ve facetimed Pat a couple of times asking for his opinions with Daniel sitting next to me. And Tyrod [there],” backup quarterback Davis Webb told the Breaking Big Blue Podcast. “Just trying to get some insight on some plays.”

Webb and Mahomes go back a ways. The two were college teammates for a couple of seasons at Texas Tech and have remained close ever since.

“Just having an opportunity to talk with him and get into his mind a little bit about his stuff and the things we brought over with Mike [is great],” Webb added.

Although the Giants quarterbacks have been picking the brain of Mahomes, Webb did make it a point to note that the current offense is a mix of Daboll’s Bills and Kafka’s Chiefs.

Either way, having a direct line to one of the most talented and successful quarterbacks in the league can only mean good things for Jones, Taylor and Webb.
