PHILADELPHIA–There aren’t a lot of players in the league like Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid. He is able to score in a variety of ways and just dominates a game on both ends of the floor. He is an elite offensive player while also being one of the better defensive players in the game.
After Embiid dropped 50 points on 19-for-29 shooting in a win over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, his teammates continue to be in awe of his overall ability. The big fella just continues to put on some terrific performances.
Patrick Beverley, who has been around the NBA for a long time, has played with some terrific players. Guys like James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Anthony Edwards, and others. Guys who are going to the Hall of Fame, but Embiid stands out in Beverley’s mind.
“Like I said earlier in the season you think you’ve played with great players before until you play with Joel,” Beverley said. “Obviously, I’ve played with a ton of bigs. A ton of players period. Kawhis, the James Hardens, the Karl-Anthony Towns, the Anthony Edwards, I mean, a lot of really, really, really, really good players.”
Being a guy of Embiid’s size and being able to do what he does on a regular basis is impressive. The reigning league MVP is just able to do almost everything. He can knock down 3-pointers, he can put the ball on the floor and get to the basket, he can knock down mid-range jumpers, and he gets to the line. Overall, there just aren’t many players like him.
“Joel brings a different aspect of the game,” Beverley finished. “He’s so dominant. He doesn’t rely on his jump shot a ton. If it’s not going in, he knows how to get to the free-throw line. So he’s probably one of the most dominant players I’ve ever played with.”
