Paris Saint-Germain want to sign Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea as his contract situation remains unresolved.

Negotiations between United and the 27-year-old have been ongoing, with the Spanish international offered a £375,000-a-week, five-year extension, which has yet to be signed.

The Sun report that United could exercise their unilateral one-year extension on his contract in January if there is no agreement, meaning that clubs across the continent would be confident of prising him away from Old Trafford in the summer.

Real Madrid had long been linked with De Gea, with a move falling through in Louis van Gaal’s final season with the club, but they signed Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea in last summer’s transfer window.

PSG are considering a move for De Gea if he becomes available, with veteran Gianluigi Buffon and relative youngster Alphonse Areola sharing goalkeeping duties so far this season.

If De Gea fails to sign a new deal, then United would be forced into a situation to sell him in the summer to receive a significant transfer fee, or lose him on a free transfer when his contract eventually expires.
