Paris advances to Class 2A regional final; Robinson, Shiloh win too

Feb. 13—Two Edgar County teams have advanced to regional championship games in the Illinois High School Association's girls basketball tournament.

Paris got its 20th victory of the season Monday night, beating host Monticello 42-37 in the Class 2A Monticello Regional. The Tigers (now 20-11) built a 16-10 halftime lead and hung on through an even second half.

Paris junior Graci Watson scored 11 points, and Taylor Clark added 10. Watson hit a pair of 3-pointers. Maia High led all scorers with 13 for Monticello.

Third-seeded Paris now plays second-seeded Tolono Unity at 7 p.m. Thursday for the regional title. Unity beat Warrensburg 49-34 on Monday.

The Shiloh Titans also victoriously represented Edgar County in the Class A Bethany Regional on Monday, and the squad from Hume, Ill., got a 40-30 victory over Casey. The win advances Shiloh, the fourth seed, to the regional's 6 p.m. Thursday title game against top-seeded Tuscola.

Tuscola beat host Bethany 59-37 in Monday's semifinals.

Elsewhere, Marshall got eliminated at the Class 2A Lawrenceville Regional, losing 74-20 to Teutopolis on Monday. The Lions had won their first-round game 59-28 over Hutsonville OPH on Saturday. Marshall finished 9-22.

Robinson, the top seed at the Class 2A Fairfield Regional, won its semifinal game Monday, beating the host team 38-23. The Maroons now play fourth-seeded Carmi at 7 p.m. Thursday. Carmi advanced with a narrow 41-40 victory over Newton on Monday.
