Eight people treated by paramedics after ten-vehicle pile up on M60

Eight people have been treated by paramedics after a major collision involving several vehicles on the M60 in Manchester.

The pile up saw at least ten vehicles crashing at around 5.45pm on Saturday on the clockwise carriageway between Junction 4 for the M56 and Junction 5 for Princess Parkway.

Highways England officers closed the road for more than two hours as police, firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene.

Eight people were treated by paramedics for injuries with one having to be rescued from the wreckage by fire crews before being rushed to hospital.

Four other casualties were then also taken to hospital by the North West Ambulance Service.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 5.45pm on Saturday, 10 April, firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the M60 motorway, clockwise, between junctions four and five.

“Three fire engines from Withington, Wythenshawe and Stockport fire stations along with the technical response unit from Leigh, quickly attended the scene.

“The collision involved 10 vehicles. A casualty was rescued from one of the vehicles by fire crews using specialist equipment before being transferred to the care of colleagues from NWAS.”

“A further seven casualties were treated at the scene by firefighters and ambulance personnel. Four people were then conveyed to hospital by NWAS.

“Firefighters were in attendance for approximately one hour and 20 minutes.”
