After the rainfall in Charlotte, the sky decided to clear up for the Panthers game at 7:30pm! The home team started off with a good start when Fozzy Whittaker scored a touchdown. He ran for a total of 13 yards with 4 carries. The Carolina run game looked very good, even though there was only one rushing touchdown in the game. Jalen Simmons ran the most for 54 yards with 17 carries.

The defense looked very strong. They held the Steelers to field goals on some drives. David Mayo was the star of the night as he intercepted Jones in the first quarter and returned the ball all the way to the Steelers’ 30 yard line. That helped set up the first touchdown of the game to Whittaker. It’s important for teams to remember that defense, wins championships. If Carolina’s defense stood a bit stronger in the last minute of the game, they would have won the game 14-10. It’s only Preseason, which means that the starters did not play that much. If the Panthers backups are doing fine, fans should not be worried one bit. Once the starters begin the regular season it will be fantastic to watch because Cam Newton will be back!

Damiere Byrd was the only receiver that scored a touchdown getting the Panthers to 14 points and taking the lead. Byrd had 2 receptions for 21 yards. Manhertz had 5 receptions for 42 yards which was the most for the Panthers last night. I look forward to see Benjamin, Funchess, Samuel, and Olsen improve their receiving game and make big plays this year. Olsen is looking for his fourth straight year with 1,000 yards in receiving! The Carolina Panthers will be better than last year and it should be a really interesting season to watch!

My only advice for the Panthers after this 2-2 preseason is to make sure that the defense holds through the entire game! Football is a game with four quarters and no team can rely on the offense to win the game. The Panthers will go to San Francisco for their first game of the season. Let’s see if they will be 1-0!! Keep Pounding!
