A Carolina Panthers fan has been arrested after being caught on video punching a fellow spectator during Thursday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

A video posted by an Instagram user showed a man wearing a Cam Newton jersey punching another fan who was sitting behind him repeatedly in the face.

The caption in the original post, which included objectionable language, claimed the two men had been arguing throughout the game because the man in the Newton jersey and the woman with him refused to sit down.

According to the user who posted the video, the victim was also wearing Panthers gear.

The Panthers released a statement saying they were pursuing charges against the fan, who has since been apprehended and named as Kyle Adam Maraghy by Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. He has been charged with simple assault.

"The Carolina Panthers are committed to a fan-friendly and family-friendly stadium experience," the team's statement read. "The behaviour exhibited by the perpetrator is unacceptable and will not be condoned at Bank of America Stadium."
