Drew Silva takes a look at Andre Pallante's most recent start against the Washington Nationals and discusses how this outing is a sign he could be one of the better matchup-dependent spot starter options moving forward.
DREW SILVA: Cardinals right-hander Andre Pallante was completely off the fantasy radar heading into the 2022 regular season. And rightly so, given that he had never appeared on a list of the top-100 prospects in baseball and posted relatively underwhelming numbers in the minor leagues.
But the 23-year-old has proven to be a savior for the pitching staff in Saint Louis, whether working in middle relief or his recent elevation into a rotation spot. Pallante closed out the month of July with a gem, tossing eight scoreless innings on the road against the Nationals. He struck out eight batters, scattered five hits, and issued only one walk while earning his fourth career win.
Pallante isn't consistent enough to warrant rostering in every fantasy format. But there is considerable streaming appeal here when he has an easy opponent, like the Nats, or is pitching inside the power-stifling confines of Busch Stadium, with one of the top overall defenses handling any balls in play behind him. Keep Pallante in mind for the stretch run.
