Packers sign RB Patrick Taylor to roster, QB Blake Bortles to practice squad

The Green Bay Packers added necessary depth at quarterback and running back on Thursday. The team signed running back Patrick Taylor from the practice squad to the active roster and signed quarterback Blake Bortles to replace Taylor on the practice squad.

Taylor, who has been in Green Bay since the start of the 2020 season, will take over for Kylin Hill as the No. 3 running back behind Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon and could be the primary kickoff returner. He carried 23 times for 89 yards over three preseason games and has been on the practice squad all year.

Bortles, who was signed in May and cut in late July, returns to the Packers to provide Jordan Love with a backup on Sunday in Kansas City. Both Aaron Rodgers and Kurt Benkert are on the COVID-19 reserve list, which forced the Packers to add a quarterback. Bortles’ experience in the offense made the decision an easy one. He’ll be elevated from the practice squad to the gameday roster on Sunday.

The Packers did not add any player to the COVID-19 reserve list on Thursday. Receiver Davante Adams was removed from the list and returned to the team.
