Packers lose practice squad OLB Nate Orchard to Washington

The Green Bay Packers have a pair of practice squad spots to fill.

On the same day the team signed receiver Juwann Winfree from the practice squad to the active roster, the Packers lost outside linebacker Nate Orchard, who is joining the active roster of the Washington Football Team.

Agent Kenny Zuckerman announced the move on Tuesday.

Orchard originally joined the Packers’ practice squad on Nov. 25. A second-round pick of the Browns in 2015 with 46 games of experience, Orchard was signed as emergency depth after the Packers lost several outside linebackers before playing the Minnesota Vikings.

Rashan Gary is now healthy and Jonathan Garvin returned from the COVID-19 reserve list, lessening the need for Orchard as a depth player.

Teams can sign any unprotected players from practice squads of other teams to the active roster.

It’s possible the Packers could sign receiver Josh Malone to the practice squad. He worked out for Green Bay this week.
