USC baseball has enjoyed a bounce-back season to this point under first-year head coach Andy Stankiewicz. The Trojans are in the hunt for the Pac-12 title, and we will see over the course of the next several weeks if this team can remain in good form and get the strong pitching it needs.
USC lost to Utah on Sunday, but the Trojans won the series with wins on Friday and Saturday.
“The Trojans have delivered back-to-back shutouts against Utah, having won on Friday by a 4-0 score. Teams can’t bluff their way through baseball seasons without having good pitching. One can only win so many 10-9 games. The Trojans appear to have legitimately restocked their pitching, the central reason for their surge to the top of the conference.”
Those arms have to remain sharp. The month of April awaits.

The Cardinal moved into first place on Sunday when USC lost to Utah.
ARIZONA STATE SUN DEVILS (7-2 PAC-12)
Arizona State baseball is at the top of the Pac-12, alongside Stanford.
ASU came back from multiple three-run deficits to beat Cal in a Sunday slugfest, 15-10.

The Trojans took two out of three from Utah over the weekend and are just one game out of first in the loss column. They have the most conference wins of any Pac-12 baseball team. They’re firmly in the mix for the postseason.

The Cougars might be a good team, but much like basketball, they have to scratch out more close wins to make it mean something.

Arizona is another program with a College World Series championship and a rich history which has not been able to do much in this year’s Pac-12.

It’s a bleak time in Berkeley for baseball. Cal should have won on Sunday against Arizona State but couldn’t make 10 runs stand up in a 15-10 loss to the Sun Devils.
UTAH UTES (3-9 PAC-12)

Utah played USC over the weekend, twice in Salt Lake City but also once in Provo, on BYU’s campus. The Provo game was on Friday, March 31. Utah lost two of three but won the series finale on Sunday.
