PITTSBURGH – Police are investigating the death of a Monaca man after he fell to his death inside Acrisure Stadium on Sunday.
According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, the incident occurred when 27-year-old Dalton Ryan Keane fell from an escalator inside of the stadium around 4:45 p.m., shortly after the conclusion of the Steelers-Jets game. Keane was rushed to the emergency room in critical condition, but died from his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.
"We are aware of an unfortunate incident that occurred inside Acrisure Stadium today,” Burt Lauten, a spokesperson for the Steelers, said in a release on Sunday evening. “We are working with local authorities and helping their investigation into the matter. We are sending our thoughts and prayers to the guest’s family."
Reports indicate that Keane, a Central Valley High School graduate, was a father of a 2-year-old child and a pipefitter with McCarl's, a Beaver Falls-based mechanical piping contractor, since 2014. He was also an active member of the Steamfitters UA Local 449 union.
“We are shocked and saddened to hear about Dalton’s accident on Sunday," said Ken Burk, CEO of McCarl's. "He joined McCarl’s in 2014 and was highly regarded by our employees. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”
Keane's family launched a GoFundMe campaign to support his daughter, Isla, on Wednesday evening. According to the page, all funds raised will go directly to a bank account to support any needs for her future.
"Unfortunately we have lost an important piece of our lives, as did so many others," said Cody Keane, the fundraiser's organizer. "Her father is Dalton Keane, a wonderful and devoted father that passed away over the weekend. We are starting this fund to secure a sturdy future for his daughter, Isla, because that is truly the one thing he worked for everyday."
This is the second recent tragedy for the family. Dalton's brother, Devin Michael Keane of Center Township, died at age 31 last December.
As of October 5, it is still unclear what caused Keane to fall. Members of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Major Crimes Unit are continuing to investigate the incident.
