The Ottawa Senators have signed defenceman Thomas Chabot to an 8-year, $64-million extension, the team announced Thursday.

The 22-year-old NHL All-Star is coming off a stellar sophomore season, setting personal records in goals, assists and points, while ranking 10th among NHL defencemen in scoring.

"Thomas is an exceptional talent and an outstanding teammate, who is impactful both on and off the ice. He is the type of player that can develop into a core member of a championship-level team in the National Hockey League," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion in the team press release.

In two NHL seasons, Chabot has tallied 23 goals and 80 points in 134 games. He was drafted 18th overall by the Senators in the first round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, and represented Ottawa at the NHL All-Star Game in 2019.

The extension will begin after his entry level contract expires at the end of this season, and run until the end of the 2027-2028.
