Hall of fame head coach Joe Gibbs made an appearance at Panthers OTA’s on Wednesday. Gibbs, a winner of three super bowl championships, hasn’t attended a football practice in years as he’s made a strong footprint in NASCAR as a team owner. Some of Gibbs’ former players are now a part of the Panthers organization. Don Warren, now a scout for Carolina, was on all of Gibbs’ championship teams while offensive line coach Ray Brown was able to capture a ring of his own. Gibbs was quoted saying the Panthers had a “spirited workout” and the way the coaching staff runs practice is “really impressive.”

By now everyone is aware of the rule that’s keeping Christian McCaffrey out of OTA’s; he can’t participate until Stanford’s academic year ends. The rule is in place to encourage players to graduate if that is their choice. For a lot of players, especially those coming out after their junior year like McCaffrey, that’s not the case. McCaffrey was in town over the weekend for Ron Rivera’s charity bowling event and to sign a lease for a place to live during the upcoming season. McCaffrey will be able to join the Panthers on June 14th, which will be the second day of a mandatory three-day minicamp.

On Monday the Panthers underwent a bit of a scare after James Bradberry was carted off the field after an awkward fall that resulted in a fractured wrist. Bradberry will be in a cast for six weeks, but luckily the injury isn’t threatening his season. He’ll be limited for next week’s mandatory minicamp, but he should be ready in time for training camp. The Panthers will be looking for Bradberry to make drastic progress in his second season in the NFL.

Tomorrow marks the last day of OTA’s before next week’s minicamp that will go from June 13th-15th. The minicamp will be the last team-organized event until the Panthers report to training camp at the end of July.
