Magic's Devin Cannady stretchered off court after suffering horrific ankle injury
Orlando guard Devin Cannady was stretchered off the court Sunday afternoon after suffering a brutal ankle injury in the Magic's 131-112 loss to the Indiana Pacers.
Cannady went up to defend a layup attempt from guard Edmond Sumner late in the first quarter at the Amway Center before landing awkwardly on his right leg, which buckled and sent him to the floor in pain.
Cannady screamed out and teammate Mo Bamba rushed over to cover up his leg quickly with his own jersey. Blood was seen on the court near his ankle.
"I just saw my teammate was down, and I just did what he would probably do for me," Bamba said, via The Athletic's Josh Robbins. "I just thought quick and I didn't want him to see [the injury]. I just took my shirt off my back and gave it to him."
He was eventually put on a stretcher and taken out of the arena. He gave a thumbs up as he exited.

The Magic said Cannady suffered an open fracture in his right ankle, and will undergo surgery.
"He's a good guy. He's worked his tail off to continue to get better, and it's just sickening to see him go down like that," acting coach Tyrone Corbin said, via Robbins. "We're praying for him that he'll have a speedy recovery."
Cannady played one minute in the contest. The undrafted rookie out of Princeton is averaging 4.9 points in seven games.
Cannady has played off and on for the Magic this season, who first signed him as a free agent in November and waived him less than a month later. They brought the 24-year-old back on a 10-day deal earlier this month, and then signed a two-way contract with him at the conclusion of the contract.
