Mascarenas is the highest-rated high school defensive prospect to commit in program history.
The high school prospects in Beavers history who rated higher than Mascarenas were all on the offensive side of the ball., which includes Isaac Seumalo (No. 28; 2012), Derek Anderson (No. 46; 2001), running back Steven Jackson (No. 78; 2001) and offensive lineman Michael Phillip (No. 132; 2009).
The 6-foot, 220-pound inside linebacker out of Mission Viejo High School chose Oregon State over offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, Colorado, Washington, and Washington State.
Mascarenas suffered a back injury his senior season that sidelined him for the year. He had 189 total tackles and 7.5 sacks during his high school career.
