  • Major Harris
    American football player

The last time Notre Dame won a national championship was when they beat previously unbeaten West Virginia in the 1989 Fiesta Bowl to cap the 1988 season. Starting at quarterback that day for the Mountaineers was Major Harris, who would get injured early, only to hurt the chances for West Virginia.

Harris twice finished in the top-five of the Heisman Trophy voting while at West Virginia and it’s been announced that the Mountaineers will retire his jersey this coming fall when they play host to Oklahoma State on November 6.

Harris is one of two Division I quarterbacks to pass for more than 5,000 yards and rush for more than 2,000 during his career.
