By all accounts, the Charlotte Hornets and GM Rich Cho had a solid NBA draft night, picking up one of the top shooters on the board in Kentucky’s Malik Monk and snagging Florida State standout Dwayne Bacon in the second round.

However, Cho suffered a regrettable draft-related moment Friday when introducing Monk and Bacon to the media back in North Carolina.

Yup, he really called Dwayne Bacon “Dwyane Wade.” To be fair, Cho immediately realized his mistake and, like most NBA executives, was probably running on fumes after a hectic draft week, but that won’t stop Bacon’s reaction from becoming a new meme.

And, though the gaffe was clearly accidental, Cho rolled with the faux pas, per the Charlotte Observer:

“Actually,” he said, “I think they have some similarities.”

It was high praise, even if accidental. And Bacon later agreed with Cho, who also compared the former Seminole to seven-time All-Star Joe Johnson.

“They’re smooth players that can score the ball,” Bacon said. “And I fall right in that bracket.”

Of course, all the confusion could certainly be avoided if the Hornets and the rest of the league took a page from Florida State’s book and simply utilized Bacon’s outstanding last name. Come on, NBA. Let’s make it happen!
