The one stat that sums up the Giants’ offensive ineptitude this season

This season has been filled with struggles for the New York Giants, and those have been well documented. They fired offensive coordinator Jason Garrett midseason. General manager David Gettleman is expected to retire on Monday. They limped to a 4-13 record on the season, the second losing record in two years for head coach Joe Judge.

On the offensive side of the football, there are any number of metrics you can use to make the case that the Giants are among the worst offenses in the league. They ranked dead last in Total Offense DVOA coming into Week 18, behind teams like the Houston Texans and the Carolina Panthers. Looking at their offense through the lens of Expected Points Added, you can see how the Giants stacked up this year:

Not well.

But as Sam Monson from Pro Football Focus pointed out, there might be one stat that best summarizes the Giants offense this season.

After signing Kenny Golladay to a huge contract this offseason, and adding Kadarius Toney in the first round of the draft, it was left tackle Andrew Thomas who caught the most touchdowns — in fact the only touchdown — among that trio of players.

Making matters worse was this little bit of context:

Truly a brutal year on offense for the Giants, one that their fans are happy is over, so they can go start the process of forgetting it even happened.
