OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss picked up its eighth top 300 commitment for the 2013 signing class, as shortstop Errol Robinson picked the Rebels on Sunday.
Robinson, a shortstop from Boyds, Md., is a Mississippi native, whose mother and father went to Ole Miss and Southern Miss, respectively.
Kendall Rogers first reported the commitment.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pounder is the No. 249 overall prospect for the class, according to Perfect Game. He's also rated as the No. 5 player in Maryland and No. 34 shortstop nationally.
Robinson ran a 6.85 60-yard dash during the 2012 National Showcase last month at the Metrodome. He also threw 84 MPH across the infield during the same event.
Perfect Game rates him a 9.0 on its 1-10 scale and had this scouting report during the National Underclass Showcase last December in Fort Myers, Fla.
"Lean, projectable build. Very good athlete who can run. Athletic actions at SS, quick feet, short strides. Hands are soft and field well. Loose, athletic actions, arm strength plays well. Good defender with feel. Spread stance, leg lift trigger at the plate. Loose swing with quick hands and good extension. Quick bat with good plate coverage and ability to go the other way. Line drive swing plane. Projects as top of the order hitter. Very good base runner. Interesting player to watch. Named to Top Prospect Team."
