Oklahoma Sooners tumble to No. 11 in USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

·3 min read

After being handed its first loss of the season, Oklahoma took quite the tumble in the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Baylor blasted Oklahoma in the second half yesterday in Waco, outscoring the Sooners 20-7 after halftime. The coaches took notice and dropped Oklahoma seven spots to No. 11 in today’s rankings. That was the largest drop for any of the ranked teams that lost.

OU is the second-lowest rated power-five conference team in the coaches’ rankings. The Sooners did check in one slot in front of Wake Forest, but all of the other power-five conference one-loss teams were ranked in front of OU.

There was no change in the top three. Georgia remained the unanimous No. 1 in the coaches’ poll after racing away from Tennessee 41-17. Alabama is next at No. 2 following its 59-3 win over New Mexico State and Cincinnati is still No. 3 after a 45-28 victory at South Florida on Friday night.

Ohio State and Oregon each moved up one spot following the Sooners’ loss to round out the top five at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. After that, the rest of the top ten teams in the rankings follow as such: Notre Dame at No. 6, Michigan at No. 7, Michigan State at No. 8, Oklahoma State at No. 9 and Ole Miss at No. 10.

Baylor matched Utah for the biggest leap upwards in the rankings. The Bears moved up five spots to No. 13.

Outside of Baylor, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, no other Big 12 teams are inside the top-25. However, Kansas State is in the receiving votes section after the Wildcats took care of business at home, beating West Virginia 34-17.
