Oklahoma plummets in latest AP Poll following loss to K-State

After suffering their first loss of the season at the hands of Big 12 foe Kansas State, Oklahoma took a steep nose dive in the AP Poll released Sunday afternoon.

Oklahoma fell 12 spots in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 from 6th to 18th after losing 41-34 at home to Chris Kleiman’s Wildcats. Oklahoma fell 10 spots in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches poll earlier today.

The slide in the rankings is the Sooners’ most significant drop in two years. The top five in the nation remained the same. No. 1 Georgia stays ahead of No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Michigan, and No. 5 Clemson, followed by No. 6 USC, with its highest ranking in five years.

The Big 12 is still well-represented in the AP Poll with Oklahoma State remaining in the Top 10 at No. 9 while Baylor moves up one spot to No. 16. We’ll see a rematch of the 2021 Big 12 Championship game this week when Oklahoma State opens up their Big 12 slate with Baylor. Texas falls out of the Top 25 after its loss in Lubbock to Texas Tech.

Many thought we’d see the Kansas Jayhawks ranked after a 4-0 start and a solid win against previously undefeated Duke, but they still sit outside the rankings. However, they are receiving votes. Kansas State enters the poll after its win over Oklahoma at No. 25.

Oklahoma will look to right the ship as they travel to Fort Worth to take on the undefeated TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday. Kick-off is set for 11 a.m. central standard time on ABC.
