Oklahoma took a hit to its wide receiver corps this week.

Coach Lincoln Riley announced Saturday that Nick Basquine suffered an Achilles tendon injury that will cause him to miss the entire 2017 campaign. Riley said Basquine went down without contact during practice.

Basquine, a redshirt junior, was expected to be among the Sooners’ top group of wideouts in 2017. The former walk-on played in all 13 games last year with two starts and finished the year with 20 catches for 265 and two touchdowns. He had the best stats of the team’s returning wide receivers.

With Basquine out, Riley pointed to Mykel Jones, Lee Morris and Charleston Rambo as guys to potentially pick up the slack. Tight end Mark Andrews and Kentucky transfer Jeff Badet should also have big roles on the offense.

Basquine is the second player OU has confirmed to be out for the season with an injury. Riley announced earlier in the week that backup offensive lineman Alex Dalton suffered a season-ending knee injury. The junior appeared in six games last year, including a start at right guard.

OU, coming off a second straight Big 12 championship, opens its season against UTEP on Sept. 2.
