It’s a right of passage as an Ohio State football player. You can be a part of the team but not really a part of the Buckeye brotherhood until you “officially” become a part of the family with the removal of the black stripe atop those silver helmets.

We’ve had a lot of the newcomers receive that honor already this year, but there’s something about it that feels a little more special when a walk-on is honored. We already saw that happen when Kevin Wilson’s son, Toby, shed his black stripe earlier this week, but that too was followed by another walk-on, linebacker Kuwatch Jackson also having his black stripe peeled off Tuesday.

At 6-foot, 4-inches, and 235-pounds, Jackson came to the program last summer out of Lakota West High School in West Chester, High School. The honor was not lost on Jackson as he spoke in front of teammates.

“I just want to thank everyone in this huddle for welcoming me into the brotherhood,” Kuwatch said. “Shoutout to H2, Coach (Al) Washington, Coach (Joe) Lyberger, Coach (Joe) Bolden. Go Bucks.”

Congrats to Jackson. Here’s to hoping he can continue to carve out a spot on the defense and be a part of big things down the road.
