Ohio State center Billy Price tears pec muscle during NFL scouting combine
Ohio State offensive lineman Billy Price was an iron man at Ohio State who made a school record 55 consecutive starts. On Thursday, Price’s audition for pro scouts ended inauspiciously after he suffered a freak injury during the 225-pound bench press.
Price reportedly halted his workout, reached for his left shoulder and walked off in considerable pain. According to The MMQB’s Albert Breer, Price suffered a torn pectoral muscle.

One of 11 Ohio State players at the NFL scouting combine, Price started at guard for three years before shifting over to the center position for his senior season. In his inaugural season anchoring the middle of the offensive line, Price was honored with the 2017 Rimington Award, which is given to the player considered the best center in college football.

Price’s injury has not been verified, but an MRI is expected to confirm his initial diagnosis. The cruel irony of Price’s injury is that the bench press was anticipated as the strongest portion of his combine strength workouts.
Price was projected as a possible first-round pick in April’s draft. How far his stock tumbles as a result is anybody’s guess, but the average recovery period for a torn pec suggests he won’t be available for Ohio State’s pro day on March 22.
