COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio State men's basketball program announced Tuesday that it will begin a home-and-home series with Cincinnati. The Buckeyes will begin both the 2018-19 and 2019-20 with games against the Bearcats. Ohio State will begin the 2018-19 season on the road against Cincinnati, playing in the newly-renovated Fifth Third Arena.

Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann said that these games against Cincinnati provides a unique opportunity to showcase college basketball in the state of Ohio.

“The idea of challenging ourselves in the nonconference while also providing an attractive game for our collective fan bases certainly made sense to us," Holtmann said. " We understand the challenge of opening the season on the road vs. a high-caliber opponent with a younger team provides some risk but we felt like it was the right decision at this time."

The Buckeyes have not played the Bearcats in a regular season game since 1921. However, No. 4 Ohio State won the last meeting against Cincinnati on March 22, 2012 in the NCAA East Regional Semifinals.
