Official hurt, hospitalized after hitting head on court at Michigan State-Rutgers women's game

An official was hurt and hospitalized after she hit her head just after the Rutgers-Michigan State game ended on Wednesday night.

Official Angie Enlund, according to The Associated Press, was accidentally run over by Rutgers’ Tekia Mack near midcourt as Mack was headed back to the bench. Enlund stayed down on the ground for several minutes before medical staff at the arena took her off on a stretcher.

She was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated further and was kept overnight with a concussion, a Michigan State spokesperson said. Enlund did not have any fractures, and was responsive and communicating at the arena before going to the hospital.

“I know she was unconscious for a period of time,” Michigan State coach Suzy Merchant said, via The Associated Press. “They took her in an ambulance, but it’s a very scary and serious thing. She hit very, very hard. She hit her head really hard, so I would just pray for her and her family and hope that she is going to be OK.”

No. 25 Rutgers won the game in East Lansing 63-53, which marked its sixth straight win. The Scarlet Knights will close out their regular season on Sunday.
