Officer shoots dog after child is attacked in Auburn

After an 11-year-old girl was attacked and bitten by a dog in Auburn, a responding police officer shot the dog when it turned on him, according to the Auburn Police Department.

On May 13, Auburn police responded to a report of a dog attack in the 1800 block of Court Place Southeast.

When the officer arrived, he found an 11-year-old girl with a bite on her arm that required stitches.

According to body camera video obtained by KIRO 7 News, when the officer approached Valley Fire, who was attending to the girl, two large dogs ran towards the officer.

In the video, the officer withdraws his firearm and shoots multiple times, injuring one of the dogs.

The injured dog was transferred to Sumner Animal Hospital, where it was euthanized.

The other dog was unharmed and returned to its owner.
