As college basketball mourns the loss of what would have been Day 2 of the NCAA Tournament, its brightest star received some good news.

Dayton forward Obi Toppin was the only unanimous selection for the Associated Press All-America teams announced on Friday.

1st time for a Dayton player

Toppin received 65 out of 65 votes of a nationwide media panel to headline the AP All-America first team. He’s joined by 14 others on three All-America teams in addition to a handful of honorable mentions. He is the first Dayton player ever to receive first-team All America honors.

The 6-foot-9 forward led the Flyers to a 29-2 record and what would have likely been a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Toppin averaged 20 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 63.3% from the field and projects as a lottery pick in the upcoming NBA draft. His acrobatic dunks made regular appearances in highlight reels.

“I feel like everybody just knew what they had to do to help the next person succeed and that's why I was so successful this year,” Toppin told AP. “I thank my teammates every single day for that.”
