Northridge girls golf qualifies for state finals

KENDALLVILLE – The dream season for the Northridge High School girls golf team will conclude next weekend at the state finals in Carmel.

Coach Ken Brewster’s Raiders, ranked No. 13 in the final Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association poll and undefeated overall winners of the Northern Lakes Conference championship, gained their first state finals berth by finishing third in Friday’s East Noble Regional played at the par-70 Noble Hawk Golf Links.

Led by senior Karisa Dyer’s personal-best of one-over-par 71, Northridge totaled 319. Sophomore Alex Reschly had a 78, sophomore Macey Riegsecker shot 84 and junior twins Lizzy Irving and Addy Irving shot 86 and 91, respectively.

No. 2 Homestead, led by medalist Scarlett Senk’s two-under 68, finished with a 10-over total of 290. Finishing second at 313 was No. 10 Carroll (Fort Wayne), which beat Northridge at last week's Northridge sectional held at Meadow Valley.

“It means the world,” Brewster said of Northridge’s first state finals appearance. The state finals will be played Sept. 29-30 at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel. “It’s the same lineup from last year, and today they were 45 strokes better than they were last year. The dedication and hard work moves everything. It just shows them that hard work pays off.”

Dyer’s round included three birdies (Nos. 8, 9 and 17) and four bogeys (Nos. 1, 2, 5 and 18). Reschly’s round of 78 included two birdies also two double bogeys and a triple bogey.

The Raiders finished three strokes better than No. 16 DeKalb and No. 17 Culver Academy finished at 324 for fifth, a spot ahead of No. 18 Warsaw (340). Plymouth (349) finished seventh and Concord (388) was 10^th. Qualifying as individuals were Culver Academy’s Lynne Zhang (71) and Karilyn Teglia (75) and Warsaw’s Abbey Peterson (73).
