Update: No injuries reported in Dickinson crash
Jan. 6—DICKINSON — A vehicle struck a pole near Rocky Butte Park on Thursday evening. The crash tipped the pole sideways, which prompted emergency services to close the road for several hours while crews worked to stabilize it.
Dickinson Police Lt. Mike Hanel told The Dickinson Press Friday that although the official police report was not yet completed, the crash did not appear to have resulted in any injuries. He cited icy road conditions as the cause and said he was unaware of other contributing factors.
"Rocky Butte Hill tends to become a little treacherous," Hanel said. "The rapidly changing road conditions kind of catch people by surprise up there."
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Dickinson Police Department, Dickinson Fire Department and Montana-Dakota Utilities Company.
"The crew was on-site a little over three hours to stub the pole, which will keep it safe and operational until it can be completely replaced," MDU Spokesman Mark Hanson said. "We will try to complete the replacement next week."
The crews were able to stabilize the pole without any reported disturbances to electricity, Hanson said.
Dickinson Fire Chief Jeremy Presnell said his crews responded and blocked traffic from accessing the affected area.
Hanel said no further information was available on Friday.
